D.L. Brown
Don and Jean Brown
I am a custom saddle maker who was born with a love for country music. The song "New Horizon" was dedicated to Jean, my wife of 47 years. It was written about the struggles of life and it gives the answer to everyone seeking a "New Horizon."

Included in the "New Horizon" CD is a song that I have written about our first born son, Ricky Lee, who was born with very special needs. May this song bless and encourage many hearts.

The song "There's A Mule Under Her Saddle Again" was written for Jean's cookbook, "There's A Mule Under My Saddle Cookbook." I hope you'll get a "kick" out of it.

"Cousin Dee Dee" has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember, bringing joy, fun, and laughter to the hearts of many, young and old. Relax a while and get a smile with "Cousin Dee Dee." — D.L. Brown

The String Band Revue Story

Ginger Blackburn, Community Christian Center, Boise, Idaho

Who is D.L. Brown? He is a man who has dedicated his life to his family and friends, with strong convictions about his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. There are three things that have motivated his life, the first being the relationship he has with God through his son, Jesus Christ. The second, a love for country music, which started at a very early age. He started playing music with an old Gene Autrey guitar. His mother and father saw he was not going to give up his ambition for music, so like mothers and fathers do, they bought him the desire of his heart, a used guitar and an old wire recorder. As time progressed, he was encouraged by his fellow classmates and teacher and was often asked to sing for the class. The kids loved his music, maybe for no other reason than not having class.

After high school, marriage, and starting a family began to unfold, music took a new form, this time as starting a dance band and trying to be a country artist with only the wisdom of a nineteen-year-old. However, his persistance gained recognition from one of the leading record companies at that time, called Columbia. There were many hours of discussion leading to a decision, which at that time seemed favorable, to keep the family first and the music second.

A few more years of dance bands and then a big period of discouragement, storing his guitar under the bed and not singing a note for ten years. But music was not over. The family had increased and had come to the age of wanting to play music. Over a process of time, The String Band Revue was created, first in the family living room, then into a practice room, and from there to the stage. Many public, radio and TV appearances were made in addition to both civic and evangelistic engagements. The String Band Revue recorded the song "Weiser," featured on the National Old-time Fiddlers album and that led to the recording of The String Band Revue album.

The story of D.L. Brown is not just that of a vocalist, but also that of a songwriter. The song that he wrote, "New Horizon," ended up in Nashville, Tennessee. A lifetime dream was realized when he was asked to perform on stage at The Grand Ole Opry.

We mentioned earlier that there were three things that motivated this person. At the time of this story's unfolding, he was also pursuing excellence in the art of custom saddle making. He, at present time, has made many saddles that have been shipped around the world. He is considered to be a master craftsman in this old-time art. Because of his love for this trade, he has taught over sixty students in the art of custom saddle making throughout the United States, Canada, Japan and France. Many lives were touched, including his own. He feels privileged to see the fruits of his labor, not only academically, but also from a spiritual aspect. His students are considered to be some of the finest in the saddle-making business.

All stories must have an end, but sometimes it's just a beginning. D.L. Brown is back on the stage, writing new music and enjoying the privilege of making people happy. I'm sure he would like to end by saying...He loves ya (John 3:16).

"Shout joyfully to God all the earth; sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious."

—Psalm 66: 1,2
